THE DITCH & WHY DITCH?

IT’S exactly where you want to be

Panorama of Beaufort, South Carolina, USA

People often ask us, "Why Ditch?!” There's a breathtaking expanse of water out there, filled with boats and wonderful people on adventures—that freedom to explore is what inspired us to name our app Ditch.

If you haven’t boated down the East Coast of the US, you may not know that “Ditch” is a fun nautical slang term about not just a destination, but a truly American experience.

The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, lovingly known as “The Ditch” by those who’ve traversed its waters, is more than just a passage. It’s a lifestyle, a community, and a challenge. For boaters, it’s a chance to slow down, savor the journey, and connect with a world of like-minded adventurers.

The Ditch is a well-worn path, a nautical highway that winds its way along the Eastern Seaboard. It’s a place where seasoned captains and novice sailors alike can test their skills and their patience.

It’s a place where the rhythm of the tides dictates the pace of life.  It's a place you want to be—which is exactly how our app got its name: Ditch.

But navigating the Ditch is no easy feat. It requires careful planning, a keen eye, and even better, local knowledge to help you out.  And that is where our journey started - how could we help boaters experience this adventure safely?  How could we provide marine navigation that is accurate?  We started to look into data that would enable us to provide local knowledge for boat navigation in The Ditch.

And we found it! Now, Ditch users have access to the most recent boating data to create intelligent auto routes, Smart ETAs, water depths, and more, helping boaters make informed decisions enhancing safety avoiding potential hazards.

The Ditch offers a unique opportunity for self-discovery. It’s a chance to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature. To watch the sunrise over a tranquil bay, to feel the wind in your hair, and to listen to the gentle lapping of waves against the hull.

Exploring The Ditch also owes a great deal of appreciation to the hard work and dedication of the Army Corps of Engineers. Their tireless efforts have made this waterway a reality, enhancing our boating experiences and contributing to the economic vitality of coastal communities.

So, the next time you’re planning a boating adventure, consider taking the Ditch using Ditch boat navigation app. It’s a journey that will challenge you, inspire you, and reward you with memories that will last a lifetime.
